Nonprofit/Community/Corporate Service

I am an advocate for Be the Match, which is an organization that facilitates bone marrow donations, educates medical professionals, and conducts research to hopefully find a cure for blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. I raise money for the organization by hosting an annual gala and an annual 5K fun run/walk. It was through this organization that my aunt was matched up to a donor when she required a bone marrow donation while fighting cancer. I also joined the registry and became a donor myself in 2011.

Personal Statement

As a professional school counselor, I spend my days working with students, families, and other school staff to assure the well-being of our student population. I work with students on academic concerns, personal/social concerns, and in helping to select appropriate career paths.

My life — almost from the start — has been geared toward education. I knew from a young age that this was the field that was right for me. My whole world view is based on the belief that those who feel confident in themselves, their decisions, and their lives will be the most successful. Therefore, it is always my goal to help people feel good about themselves — to find their inner strength, and to nurture passion to lead toward good decision-making. The outcomes of what I do are not always exactly as they should be; however, each success story far outweighs the negatives! My job is about doing the best that I can do to guide students toward the correct path, and hope that they take meaningful life skill with them when they graduate high school.
