Personal Statement

“The highest goal of public education is to prepare students to become contributing members of the community. Regardless of their line of work or level of skill, it is important for every person to realize their personal potential and, ultimately, give more than they receive. High schools too often boast of their percentage of graduates who move on to higher education, while seldom do they take note of the students who fail to complete college after being accepted. Our work as educators must continue until our charges attain the independence and self-sufficiency that comes with graduation from a college or university. It is fine to support the decision of students who choose to enter the workplace or military right out of high school. But it is not acceptable to ignore those who desire to participate in higher education, yet lack the skills necessary to succeed. Doorway to College is in a position to assist students, their families, and their schools with trying to improve the success rate of our colleges and universities. I am proud to participate in this effort.”
